Frequently asked questions
Speedflow Unvented Water Heater 5 - 15L - SF05K, SF10K, SF15K
-
The discharge from the safety valves must be to a safe waste, you should consider that the temperature could exceed 98°C and be at mains pressure. Any waste fitting and pipework must be able to sustain that temperature and pressure for a prolonged period of time.
-
A tundish is required under regulation on the discharge from the safety valves. This provides both the required air gap and also a means of identifying the unit is discharging and has a fault.
-
The Speedflow range of products will require maintenance, this includes annual check on the sacrificial anode as well as safety relief valve operation test in accordance with the regulations and manufacture recommendations in addition to any site specific maintenance schedule.
-
Access to the element, thermostat and cutout on the Speedflow SF-K and Mk1 SF-SS units is made from the base of the product, There are six screws which secure the base plate, the product will need to be removed from installation and inverted in order to access the panel. On the Mk2 Speedflow Stainless Steel tank units, access is made from the front, The dark fascia sticker needs to be lifted to access the fascia screws which when removed will allow access to the element, thermostat and cutout components.
-
Resetting the cutout on a Speedflow will require the unit to be electrically isolated, and for the SF-K and Mk1 SF-SS units it will require removing the product from installation. Access can then be gained via the base plate where the cutout can be located and reset. The reset button should be firmly depressed and sit slightly proud of the surround when it is correct. If the cutout has operated repeatedly or will not reset it will require replacing along with thermostat components.
On the Mk2 SF-SS units access is made via the front panel once the unit has been isolated from electrical and water supply’s.
-
Our range of Speedflow heaters can be used with a thermostatic mixing valve which will allow the stored water to be above 65°C and then mixed down to a safe temperature to the outlet/s.
-
There is no reason why the expansion vessel cannot be mounted in any orientation you wish. Best practice would be to ensure however that you can remove it for service or replacement.
-
Yes, ensure the unit is installed upright with the pipework coming out of the top.
-
The Speedflow range of products must be installed in the vertical plane with the water connections to the top of the product.
-
Yes
-
The unit can be installed at any distance; however, temperature and flow rate will decrease as the distance to the outlet increases.
-
No, accessory kits are available to buy separately. See Speedflow Kits
-
No, a much higher capacity unit is required.
-
The SF3 kit must be used where expansion cannot be adequately accommodated within the cold supply pipework or where a cold water draw off is within the expansion zone.
-
The Sacrificial Anode is a magnesium rod that is silver in colour and attached to the underside of the element plate by a single bolt.
-
It is normal for the anode to become pitted and disfigured under its normal operation. Replacement should be done before the anode is at around 30% of its original size.
Powerflow Smart Unvented Water Heater 30 - 100L - PF30S, PF50S, PF80S, PF100S
-
Our range of Powerflow heaters can be used with a Thermostatic mixing valve which will allow the stored water to be above 65°C and then mixed down to a safe temperature to the outlet/s.
-
No, connections are at the base of the unit
-
The Powerflow range of products must be installed in the vertical plane with the water connections to the bottom of the product.
-
Yes
-
Yes a 1kW element is available for where a lower kW loading is required, such as temporary buildings or generator electrical supplies. The heat up and recovery times will be affected.
-
The unit can be installed at any distance; however, temperature and flow rate will decrease as the distance to the outlet increases.
-
Yes the Powerflow range of products are suitable for use on a thermostatic shower valve. You should consider an 80L as a minimum to ensure a suitable shower time is achieved. A typical shower head will pass around 7-10 Litres per minute, with a suitable cold temperature mix this would give you around a ten minutes shower.
-
Yes
-
The unit has detected boil dry conditions. The temperature sensor has detected a temperature well above boiling which can only occur when water is not present.
-
There is a problem with the temperature sensor, either open circuit or short circuit. Check the probe is connected to the board correctly, if it is then a replacement thermistor and/ or board is required.
Handyflow Oversink Vented Water Heater 5L - HF05LM
-
Yes, the required part is HDYTAP.
-
The tap will drip during the heating cycle. This is normal as the unit vents through the tap.
Handyflow Undersink Vented Water Heater 5L - HF05MVC
-
Yes, the tap alone is part code HFTAPQ
-
No, this is intended for use with the supplied tap only. Use with another tap will void the warranty.
-
The hoses allow the correct connection’s to be made to the heater in order to facilitate venting of the heater.

Aquila Instantaneous Water Heater 9.6kW - IN96T
-
Mixers and thermostatic taps are not suitable for instantaneous heaters.
-
No
-
Flow rate too high or outside of heater specification.
-
Flow rate too low, or heater temperature setting too high.
-
No, this is an instantaneous water heater. Water is heated as it passes through the unit.
-
The flow rate needs to be governed to achieve the correct temperature. It must be greater than 2.5LPM. If it is below this check the inline filters and tap outlets for debris or blockages.
-
E1 means a failed temperature sensor of water outlet. Replacement required.
-
E2 means a failed temperature sensor of water inlet. Replacement required.
-
LP means low pressure. The flow sensor has failed to detect the actual water pressure. A possible cause of this is impurities have attached to the turbo, stopping it from working correctly. When the appliance has been installed water must be flushed through first to remove any dirt/ impurities. To resolve, remove the turbo and clean it, if this is unsuccessful a replacement turbo may be required.
